PHE daily wagers demand regularisation in Jammu

Jammu, June 29 : Shouting anti-government slogans hundreds of daily wagers of Public Health and Engineering department on Wednesday staged protest and blocked the Tawi Bridge–the main connectivity between North-South Jammu City demanding regularisation.


The protestors took out rally from the B C Road located office and marched towards the bridge.
Amid anti-government slogans, the protesting daily wagers staged sit-in in the middle of the bridge and blocked the traffic.


“We have been engaged for nearly 20-25 years but not yet regularised and the monthly perks being paid are not sufficient to meet the daily needs,” said agitating employees.
They further alleged that that they are not receiving their salaries regularly due to which their lives have become miserable and are unable to feed their families, meet day-to-day requirements.
Meanwhile, the water supply in several parts of Jammu remained affected for the past one-week due to the strike of the daily wagers.


Several areas have not received the tap water supply and the people are forced to rush to tube wells for the drinking water facility.
The administration has also deployed the police personnel near tube wells to prevent them from the agitating daily wagers.


The police teams deployed on the bridge managed to disperse the protestors to streamline traffic inflow.
The daily wagers have threatened to intensify the agitation if their demands are not met.
