Home Ministry declares 10 per cent reservation for Agniveers

New Delhi, June 18:As the protests over Agnipath scheme continued to spread across the country, the Union Home Ministry on Saturday announced 10 per cent reservation for Agniveers for recruitment in the Central Armed Police Forces and Assam Rifles.

The Ministry also announced three years’ age relaxation beyond the prescribed upper age limit to Agniveers for recruitment in the paramilitary forces.

“The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) decides to reserve 10 per cent vacancies for recruitment in CAPFs and Assam Rifles for Agniveers,” the Home Ministry tweeted.

“The MHA also decides to give 3 years age relaxation beyond the prescribed upper age limit to Agniveers for recruitment in CAPFs and Assam Rifles. Further, for the first batch of Agniveer, the age relaxation will be for 5 years beyond the prescribed upper age limit,” the Ministry added.

The 10 lakh strong Central Armed Police Forces are considered to be one of the largest employment generating agencies under the Home Ministry.

Nearly 73,000 posts are lying vacant in the paramilitary forces under the Home Ministry. These include the BSF, CRPF, ITBP, SSB and the CISF.

Meanwhile, the stir against the centre’s scheme continued to intensify in several parts of the country with many veterans and Army aspirants asking to have a relook at the Agnipath scheme.

Chief ministers of Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Assam have also promised government jobs for the Agniveers.
