Defence Minister arrives in J&K on a 2 day visit

Srinagar, June 16 :Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh arrived on a two-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday, officials said.


On Wednesday, Singh announced that he would be in Jammu and Kashmir for a two-day visit.

Officials said that Singh would also visit the forward areas during his visit and also review the security arrangements for the Amarnath Yatra.

“I shall be visiting forward areas and interacting with troops during my visit,” he said, adding that he would attend the 200th anniversary of Maharaja Gulab Singh ‘Rajyabhishek Ceremony’ in Jammu on Friday.

The visit of the defence minister has come amid the situation which has arisen following the spate of targeted killings in the valley. The Kashmiri Pandits who have been posted in the valley under the PM package have refused to join the duties after members of the their community were killed in the valley.

Officials said that during the visit, Singh will also review the security arrangements made for the upcoming Amarnath Yatra that is commencing on June 30.
