CCIK calls on Chief Secretary, urges for streaming traffic in city, old city 

Srinagar, June 11: Associated Chamber of Commerce and Industry Kashmir CCIK has hailed the direction of Chief Secretary, Dr Arun Kumar Mehta impressing upon the officers of civil and police administration to devise a better traffic management plan within a period of 15 days.
CCIK President Tariq Rashid Ghani said traffic police and management is mostly visible at city centre Lal Chowk however  Shehr e Khaas , the old city, has been ignored where roads are in dilapidated condition.
He urged the chief secretary to order macadamisation of the roads in the city, old city and outskirts on urgent basis as the commuters are facing tough times due to large potholes.
Earlier, CCIK delegation led by its President met Dr Kumar at his office at Secretariat and apprised him about the various issues residents in the old city are facing.
Taking cognizance of the suggestions of the CCIK, Dr Kumar gave on spot directions to the officers in removing bottlenecks in the old city and working on its beautification.
He asked them to carry out a scientific study of all the bottlenecks to come up with lasting solutions for all of them. Dr Mehta emphasised upon the officers to ensure that there is no unauthorized parking on roads anywhere.  He favoured using modern tools and technology for manning the roads and ensuring smooth flow of traffic on them.
The CCIK assured full support to the administration in making the city not only clean but most beautiful. The Chief Secretary listened to the suggestions patiently and assured of making the old city a major attraction. The Chief Secretary said they are making short, mid and long term solutions for  traffic woes.
It was said that the procurement of high end traffic management equipment like highway patrolling vehicles, interceptors, motor bikes , body cameras besides other paraphernalia shortly is going to change this aspect of traffic policing to a larger extent in the UT of J&K.
