Baba Canal Breach: DDC Chairperson Ganderbal takes stock of restoration work

Ganderbal, June 6: The District Development Council (DDC) Chairperson, Ganderbal, Nuzhat Ishfaq today visited the breach spot on the Baba Canal at Kachnambal, Ganderbal and took stock of ongoing restoration work.

 Residents from several areas including Yarmuqam, Manigam, Haripora, Arhama and other villages informed the DDC Chairperson Ganderbal that the water scarcity has hit the agricultural activity badly besides affecting the day-to-day life.

The breach in the canal here has affected several hectares of agricultural land, owing to non-availability of water for irrigation.

While reviewing the progress of work on the breached spot, the DDC Chairperson Ganderbal Nuzhat Ishfaq directed the authorities to expedite the repair work by engaging more men and machinery and exhorted them to charge the canal within the shortest possible time.

On the occasion, Ex. Engineer of I&FC department apprised the Chairperson about the progress of restoration work and it was informed that restoration work is almost completed on a temporary basis besides the canal is also 50 percent charged.

She further directed the concerned department to inspect the canal along with field functionaries of the department and identify the vulnerable points and take necessary steps for plugging such spots.

DDC Chairperson was accompanied by DDC members of Kangan ‘C’ Mir Mudasir Ahmad, Kangan ‘B’ Mian Amjid, Lar ‘A’ Sajad Ahmad Rather, Executive Engineer I&FC Ganderbal and other officers.
