Kashmiri Pandit transfers in JK evoke controversy

Srinagar, June 4 : The Jammu and Kashmir government landed in soup on Saturday, after its decision to transfer around Kashmiri Pandit teachers and employees of other departments were transferred to “safer locations” evoked major controversy in the Union Territory.

In the wake of increasing targeted killings, the government effected transfer of Kashmiri Pandits and uploaded the list on various government websites.

The transfer orders were issued a day after Union Home Minister Amit Shah held a series of meetings in New Delhi on Kashmir situation.

The decision irked the Kashmiri Pandits, who accused the government of making the new postings public, which can be detrimental to their security.

“Though we seek relocation outside Kashmir, it is tragic that the government put the transfer list in public domain. Isn’t it a serious lapse ,” a Pandit employee said.

BJP termed the transfer list of KP’s on social media as a big security breach.

BJP JK spokesman Altaf Thakur said making the transfer list public on social platforms was a big security breach as terrorists would have a clear idea on who was posted where.

In a statement issued here, Thakur said it was surprising to see the fresh transfer list of Kashmiri Pandit employees out in the public.

He said the government must take strong note of the lapse and find out who was making the fresh transfer list of migrant KPs public at a time when target killings were taking place in the Valley.

The BJP JK spokesman said that officers involved in the act must be reprimanded and action should be taken against them.

He said the government was taking serious steps for the protection of Kashmiri Pandits, but some officials were playing spoil sport. He also urged the officers not to make the transfer list of KPs public, given its sensitivity.
