NYK Srinagar celebrates World Bicycle Day

Srinagar, June 3 :Reviving cycling as a norm to lower global warming, World Bicycle Day was celebrated by Nehru Yuva Kendra Srinagar, Directorate of Youth Services and Sports and Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council today as a part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav.

A total of 245 cyclists, both male and female, from different areas of district Srinagar participated in the event. The event was flagged off by Shri P. K. Pole, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, from Lalchowk Srinagar. The rally covered a distance of 7.5 Km and culminated at Botanical Garden Chashma Shahi Srinagar.

The rally envisaged to enhance the spirit of brotherhood, nationalism and to popularise the usage of bicycles to solve the dual issues of global warming and unhealthy life style. The combined efforts of all the departments were highly appreciated as being unique in terms of scale and outreach as large number of youth from all over the district participated in the event on institutional   and voluntary basis with the objective of celebrating 75 years of India’s Independence and Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav.
