Sets Targets & Timeline

Srinagar, May 24: With a view to conserve water for the future, a meeting of District Level Committee constituted for effective implementation and coordination for Mission Amrit Sarovar was held under the Chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner (DC) Srinagar, Mohammad Aijaz Asad in the Meeting Hall of the DC Office Complex here on Tuesday.

While deliberating upon the Mission Amrit Sarovar initiative , the DC said that the Mission is aimed at developing and rejuvenating water bodies of a size of about an acre or more as a part of the celebration of ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav’ to be completed by August 15, 2023.

The DC said that the Mission encourages mobilisation of other stakeholders for supplementing these efforts. He asked the concerned Officers to ensure that the process of Amrit Sarovars is implemented in a planned manner with the use of technology at every stage of the execution.

Underscoring the importance of conservation and protection of water resources, the DC said Water is one of the most important natural resources and is an invaluable gift from nature to the entire human race. He said Two-third of the earth is covered with water, but only two to three percent of available water is usable and many countries of the world are facing acute water crises.

He said realizing the same problem, the Prime Minister has launched the initiative on the eve of National Panchayat Day on 24th April 2022. He said Amrit Sarovars will play an important role in increasing the availability of water both on surface and under-ground.

The DC asked the officers to explore new sites in addition to already identified and designated sites and submit the details of the same so that execution of work is taken up for their rejuvenation and preservation.

He ironed out the inter departmental issues and asked SE/ Ex. Er. Jal Shakti Department, Rural Development Department, DFO Wildlife, DFO Urban Forestry, Ex. Engineer I&FC to submit desired information in a day.

Among others, the meeting was attended by Assistant Commissioner Development, Assistant Commissioner Revenue, Superintendent Engineer, PHE, Divisional Forest Officer, Executive Engineer, Rural Development Department and other concerned officers.
