SDD launches skill training for women SHGs at ITIs, Polytechnic Colleges across J&K

Srinagar, May 19: To impart income generation skill training to women members of Self Help Groups, the Skill Development Department today launched training programme for them at ITIs and Polytechnic Colleges across Jammu and Kashmir.

In this regard, Principal Secretary, Skill Development Department, Dr Asgar Hassan Samoon, chaired a meeting to review implementation of training programme for various Self Help Groups (SHGs).

Under the skill training and income generation activity training programme, 70000 women SHGs will be imparted training relevant to their businesses during the 12 day training programme.

 The women will be equipped with skills of all kinds of advanced technologies in fashion designing, sewing technology, horticulture, cosmetology, fruit processing and other trades so that they don’t face any hindrance while running their business units and become capable of running small industries and gain success.

During the meeting, Dr Samoon was informed that in Kashmir division 800 women had reported for training for different courses while as 684 women have reported for training in Jammu division on the first day of the training programme.

Dr Samoon emphasized that proper training and handholding of SHGs is need of the hour to up skill them. He said that imparting training to women SHGs is among top priorities of the government and serious efforts are being taken up in this regard.

Principal Secretary had feedback from the Principals and representatives of NRLM. He directed them to work in a coordinated manner so that SHGs benefit in every possible way for their economic empowerment.

Dr. Samoon further remarked that Skill Development is emerging as a necessity for the workforce of present day world as it needs multi-tasking people to deal with the day to day functioning. He emphasized upon the Principals that they should develop long term relationship with the trainees and provide them every possible support whenever needed for successfully running their businesses.

He directed the concerned officers to send daily updates about registration of SHGs for training programme besides keeping regular monitoring on implementation of the programme.
