Pioneer NCC Camp On Line of Control in Keran Concludes

Srinagar, May 19: NCC conducted its first-ever camp along the Line of Control in Keran Village of Kupwara District, from 10 to 19 May 2022. A total of 124 cadets including 14 girls from the 3 J & K Battalion NCC participated in the camp conducted with support from the Indian Army formation at Pharkian. PM Narendra Modi had recently announced the expansion of NCC in border areas so that these areas “get trained manpower for disaster management, and the youth will also get skill training for making their career in the armed forces”.  To concrete the same, the camp focused on imbibing in the cadets the aim of NCC, ie “developing character, comradeship, discipline, a secular outlook, the spirit of adventure & ideals of selfless service”.

The cadets were made to undergo physical training, drill, weapon training, firing, and grooming. To enable their holistic development several cultural activities, lectures on social awareness & nutrition especially for young girls, and short adventure trips were conducted. Maj Gen Abhijit S Pendharkar, GOC 28 Infantry Division while interacting with the cadets shared experiences of his own NCC days while motivating them to learn and work hard to achieve success in life. A traditional campfire was conducted at the culmination of the camp where the cadets showcased their varied talents & skill. Also prizes were given to the best cadets and best firers on the occasion.

The camp enjoyed a wholehearted support from the people of Keran Village as conduct of the camp was a matter of great pride for the village.  It was a first-of-its-kind endeavor at this remote location right next to the line of control & 42 boys of Keran also participated in it.
