DEO Shoots Letter To Director ULB For Disqualification Of BJP Councilor In Bandipora

Bandipora, May 18 : District Election Officer (DEO) Bandipora has asked Director Urban Local Bodies (ULB) Kashmir to take action against a Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) Councilor in Municipal Council Bandipora of the north Kashmir for holding fair price shop license which is against norms.

Sources privy to the development disclosed to GNS that councilor of Ward No. 4 of Municipal Council Bandipora Saleema Akhter possesses Fair Price Shop (FPS) license for Ward No. 6 of Bandipora, thereby she kept the election department in the dark for several months.

“However the Incumbent President of MC Bandipora moved a complaint against the councilor before Election department, which was inquired by the Additional District Development Commissioner Bandipora,” they said.

The enquiry officer submitted his detailed report vide No:-ADDC/BPR./2022-23/482 dated:-10/05/2022, they said.
In this backdrop, they said, the case was deliberated upon and was perused threadbare.

“It came to note that disqualification of any representative falls under section 16 of Jammu & Kashmir Municipal Act 2000. It is further requested that the person in context has been elected and her candidature has to be decided by sub-section 2 of section 16 of this act, for which Director Urban Local Bodies is empowered enough by virtue of the said Act and has to take a call as laid down in the sacred provisions of the Law,” reads a letter of District Election Officer Bandipora addressed to Director Urban Local Bodies (ULB) Kashmir.

“You are as such requested to kindly take the appropriate action as warranted under norms as the elected representative is having FPS license for ward No.6 of Bandipora and is at the same time as an Elected Councillor from Ward No. 4 MC Bandipora,” the letter added.
