DC Baramulla presides over Block Diwas in Uri

Listens public grievances, demands

Baramulla, May 11: Continuing the initiatives of  special public outreach programme of LG Administration, the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Baramulla, Dr Syed Sehrish Asgar today visited Govt Degree College  Uri where she chaired a public grievance camp and listened to various issues and demands meant for the overall welfare and development of the area.

At the outset, a grand welcome was presented to Dr Sehrish for assuming the charge as Deputy Commissioner Baramulla.

A brief  profile of Uri region was also presented on the occasion wherein the DC was apprised about the progress cum performance achieved in various sectors in the area.

On the occasion, the PRIs and other prominent stakeholders highlighted their grievances viz availability of potable drinking water, uninterrupted power supply, road connectivity and other matters of vital public significance.

Among other demands, the delegations stressed for restoration of Mohra Power Project, Completion of Nand Singh Bridge, Upgradation of roads and Upgradation of NS Bridge in Uri.

Apart from other issues, people stressed for bringing Uri Sub division on tourism map to tap the tourism potential of the area and explore employment opportunities, renovation of water bodies,  besides highlighting the issue regarding growing menace of drug abuse among youth.

The DC gave a patient hearing to all the grievance and demands that were put forth by the PRIs and concerned stakeholders. She assured them that all their issues and demands shall be taken with the concerned authorities for their timely redressal.

While highlighting the objective of celebrating Block Diwas, the DC said that the programme aims to listen to public demands and issues at their doorsteps.

The DC also said that Health and Education are the priorities of LG administration and District Administration will provide all the possible support to ensure development of Uri in these sectors.

She further added that the administration is keen to streamline public service delivery and added that various developmental works are being identified and subsequently approved for their execution.
