Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav: Seminar on Juvenile Delinquency held in GGHSS Kishtwar

Kishtwar, April 23: As part of Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav celebration, a seminar and poster making competition on Juvenile Delinquency was organized at Government Girls Higher Secondary School Kishtwar, here today.

The programme was conducted on the direction of Deputy Commissioner Ashok Sharma and under the guidance  of District Child Protection Officer Tariq Parveaz Qazi.

During the deliberations made in the programme, the thrust was laid on social and psychological aspects of juvenile delinquency.

Basharat Nazir (Legal cum Probationary Officer) ICPS, DCPU Kishtwar  was  the resource person of the seminar. She commenced the deliberations on the theme and highlighted the major causes of juvenile delinquency, focusing on its behavioural and emotional components.

She highlighted the biological aspects of juvenile delinquency and its preventive and rehabilitative measures. She also discussed the psycho-social dimensions of Juvenile Delinquency and various preventive/managemental interventions that may be used by the law enforcement agencies to deal with such delinquents.

“It is very important topic and needs to be discussed by different stakeholders like parents, teachers, civil society, police and lawyers to realize their responsibility towards caring and protection of Juveniles” she added.  Parental neglect, Peer group influence, loss of recreation facilities, Poor education facilities, violence at home, etc are some of the main reasons contributing towards delinquent behaviour in Children, other horrible crime against children are sexual abuse, which also need to be addressed, the Resource person stressed.

Others who spoke on the occasion were Coordinator (Guidance and Counselling Cell), Nargis Ayub Mattoo, Patron and Principal Smt. Sunita Sharma.
