Budgam Education Sector At Crossroads

9 Out of 13 Educational Zones Headless; Over a Dozen Principal Posts Vacant, Many Institutes Without Lecturers, Headmasters

Srinagar, April 20 : At least nine educational zones in Budgam district are headless, with over a dozen higher secondaries without Principals even as deficiencies in staff of different institutions galore across the central Kashmir district.

Official sources told news agency GNS that out of total 13 Educational Zones in the Budgam, nine are without Zonal Educational Officers (ZEOs), which presumably is leaving an adverse effect on the education of students owing to the headless zones.

In addition to the shortage of ZEOs, sources said that thirteen higher secondaries out of total 45 are without Principals.

“In different education institutes across the district, 150 lecturers’ besides 50 headmaster posts (out of total 101) are lying vacant”, the sources said.

“Amid the prevailing condition thousands of students have been left to fend for themselves,” they said.

When contacted, Chief Education Officer Budgam Mushtaq Qadri said that a list is already with the higher ups regarding the filling up of vacant posts whether be it of ZEOs, Principals or Headmasters.

“We are expecting an order in this regard to come in this (month) only,” Qadri said.

Denying the students were facing problems in the backdrop of the vacant posts of lecturers, headmasters and Principals, the officer said, “additional charges have been given where posts are vacant (as of now)”.
