Several Activities Organized in B’la under ‘Gram Swaraj Abhiyan’

Baramulla, April 14: Continuing its efforts to realize the vision of ‘Gram Swaraj’, Rural Development Department Baramulla today carried out several activities across the district which aimed to uplift the socio-economic condition of the people at gram Panchayat level.

These activities are being carried out as part of ongoing Gram Swaraj Abhiyan launched to empower the PRIs so that they become the active participants of rural development.

According to Assistant Commissioner Panchayat Baramulla, Gulzar Ahmad Khan several activities are being conducted as per the schedule of Iconic Week devised under Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav programme. He added that special activities were carried out today which aimed to make special efforts for augmentation in generation of  own revenue sources at Gram Panchayat level under the provisions of J&K Panchayat Raj Act.

The ACP further added that various initiatives are being taken to mobilize and strengthen the Panchayat resources so that they are empowered enough to become self-reliant (Atma Nirbhar). He informed that government has recently empowered the PRIs to issue building permissions in rural areas against the fee to be determined by them adding that such a move will enable our Panchayats to fetch a considerable income.

Moreover, the ACP said that the unprecedented participation of PRI representatives reflects the untiring efforts of the government to make Panchayati Raj Institutions more empowered, participatory and vibrant.

He also urged upon them to play a proactive role in making the governance more transparent and accountable to the citizens.
