UT level Kabaddi Competitions begin at Budgam

240 student players drawn from 20 JK districts are participating

Budgam Mar 30: Additional District Development Commissioner Budgam Mohammad Akramullah Tak after declaring the inter district UT level Kabaddi competitions Open interacted with the participating players at Sports Stadium here.

“I am happy that youth in huge numbers are participating in games and sports and achieving great laurels for the UT” ADDC said.  He while praising the organizers for gathering players from all the 20 Districts together advised that the players should be made to feel homely by ensuring all the necessary arrangements of lodging, food etc for them.  “For a long time, sports have been viewed as a way to stay healthy and in shape, but its importance goes much further. As a matter of fact, playing sports teaches life lessons like discipline, responsibility, self-confidence, accountability, and teamwork”, he added.

YSS Cup is being organized under the supervision of Principal Secretary to Government Youth Services and Sports Department J&K Alok Kumar and Director YS&S Gazanfer Ali. 240 Kabaddi players drawn from all the Districts of the UT are taking part in the tournament with the support and guidance of 24 Coaches and Managers who are accompanying their contingents.

Nearly 9076 Panchayat/ Block teams drawn from all twenty districts of the Union territory in four sports disciplines i.e Cricket/Kabadi/Kho-Kho and Volleyball were registered for this historic and first of its kind sports extravaganza. Cash prizes of Rs 50000 for 1st position Rs 30000 for 2nd position and Rs 20000 for the 3rd position are being given to encourage sports talent of the local youth.

The competitions are being played on league cum knockout basis and 48 scheduled matches of the tournament will be played till 1st April. Prominent among many others who were present on this occasion include Nayeem Ahmad Wani DySP Budgam, Saima Akhter BDC member BK Pora, District Youth Services and Sports Officer Budgam Nusrat Jan, former captain of J&K National Kabaddi team Haji Mohammad Shafi and Aijaz Ahmed Dar.
