ARTO Reasi conducts extensive checking in Katra Town

Penalizes vehicles under relevant provisions of MVA

Reasi, Mar 26: Taking cognizance of a number of complaints of overcharging from pilgrims & local commuters and enforce the MVA norms ahead of coming festival season, Assistant Regional Transport Officer Reasi, Rajesh Gupta, on the directions of Deputy Commissioner, today conducted on the spot checking of vehicles in and around Katra town.

During the checking, the team challaned 27 Vehicles for overcharging and other violations and imposed a fine of Rs 150000 to be recovered from the defaulters. The team also compounded 30 vehicles and realized a sum of Rs 59500 on the spot. Four vehicles were also seized during the checking.

To enforce the observance of traffic rules in Katra town, the ARTO led team conducted surprise checking of auto rickshaws and booked them under the relevant provisions of MVA for charging exorbitant  fare from the pilgrims.

Team led by ARTO also seized documents of private vehicles involved in ferrying pilgrims unauthorizedly, thereby violating traffic rules. During the exercise, ARTO Reasi sternly warned the Auto Rickshaw operators against Overcharging especially during the coming Navratras.

He asked them to display the fare list in all Autos for the convenience of the general public and especially for Vaishno Devi pilgrims.

The drivers were also sensitized about the Motor vehicle Act  and urged to follow the traffic rules to ensure their safety as well as the safety of others.
