National Workshop on Heritage concludes at GCOE Jammu

Jammu, Mar 23: Two day National Workshop on Heritage Awareness and setting up of Heritage Clubs in Schools and Colleges concluded at GCOE Jammu here today.

The Workshop was jointly organized by GCOE Jammu, Faculty of Teacher Education and Heritage Education and Communication Services, New Delhi and INTACH Jammu Chapter.

During the Workshop, the future teachers were apprised of the value of the rich heritage of the country. The students were also trained by Ms. Poornima Dutt, Principal Director of HECS New Delhi about the ways in which the teachers can act as volunteers for preserving the natural, built and cultural heritage of India.

The Principal of the college, Dr. Kulvinder Kour thanked the collaborators for sharing their expertise with the students and it is more valuable for the institution because the students shall be joining different schools in the near future and one trained teacher shall make several hundred students aware about the value of saving heritage and carrying it forward.

Eminent Resource Persons shared their expertise during the span of two days.

S.M Sahani, INTACH Convenor Jammu Chapter spoke about the rich Heritage of J&K, Dr. Anita Billawaria talked about Samba Chint work and it’s conservation, Ms. Christina of HECS apprised the students about the role of volunteers, Dr.Sudhir Singh, Joint Director, JKBOSE talked about linguistic Heritage.

In addition to these, Group activities and skits were also performed by the students in four groups.

Dr. C.M Seth, Environmentalist and Co- convener INTACH Jammu Chapter talked about Natural Heritage and acknowledged the initiatives taken by   S.M Sahani for the same.  Kuldeep Wahi and Arvind Kotwal also threw light on the need of preserving heritage.

Dr. Zubair Kales, Dean , Faculty of teacher education also spoke about the value of Heritage and the need of preserving it.Dr. Anju Bala and Dr. Rajinder Kour (M.Ed Coordinator) also spoke about the value of heritage. Dr. Niharika Panda and Dr. Rekha were also present in the program.

Prof. Shalini Rana,  Dr. Savtanter Kour and Dr. Anuradha Chaudhary jointly conducted the program.

 Along with this, the program was also supported by Dr.Satwant Singh, Journalist, Ms. Ayesha from Kerala, students from Central University of Jammu, and the Travel & Tourism Department. The event was systematically handled well by the student organizers: Payal, Aakriti, Komal, Rumeeta, Pushpa, Sunaina, Shallu and Richa. The function comes to an end  with a formal vote of thanks by Ms. Shalini Rana, Convener IQAC Jammu.
