Deceased cops’ families hold protest, demand jobs under SRO 43/376

Srinagar, Mar 21 :Families of police personnel who died during active duty have appealed the Governor administration to provide jobs to the next of kin of deceased cops as per SRO 43/376 of 2017.
The families under the banner of Union of Victims Police Personnel Families (UVVPF) assembled at Press Enclave here and staged demonstration against non adoption of the said SRO.
Protesters, mainly youth, alleged that the government despite assurances to provide jobs to the family members of deceased policemen through SRO 43/376 of 2017 had so far done nothing in this direction.
“My father was posted at Jammu who died natural death during active duty. Government has already introduced SRO through which the family members of deceased policemen can avail jobs, but it’s unfortunate that we have run from pillar to post for our rights,” said Tanveer Ahmad, a protester.
He said most of the families whose family heads died while on duty are yet to get benefits under SRO 43/376 owing to the governments “lack of interest to implement SRO on ground”.
Another protester said that the government pays no attention to desperate economic condition of the families of deceased police personnel.
“I am wandering from one office to another to get adjusted. However, the government seems least interested to adjust us under SRO 43/376,” said Manzoor Ahmad.
The protesters said they will continue to hit streets until the government implements SRO 43/376 in letter and spirit so as to provide relief to the deceased families.
Meanwhile, they appealed lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and concerned authorities to address the issues they confront following deaths of their parents during duty and also ascertain why the family members were deprived of their rights.
