PIB Srinagar organizes Media Workshop at Pulwama

Pulwama, Mar 17: Press Information Bureau (PIB) Srinagar organized a one day Media Workshop on Thursday at Conference Hall DC Office Pulwama aimed at sensitization and capacity building of journalists from Pulwama and Shopian about various Centrally Sponsored Schemes and their role to bring awareness among common people.

The programme was conducted in collaboration with district administration and inaugurated by Deputy Commissioner, Pulwama Baseer ul Haq Choudhary and included about 50 eminent media persons from Pulwama and Shopian districts and other administrative officers.

DC Pulwama in his address said that the media acts as a direct link between society and administration and presenting this connection in a satisfactory manner is a great achievement. Referring to the journalistic responsibility as essence of the developmental scenario, he said that the media has to work in sync with the administration on the developmental front. He said that reporting objectively from the ground level is necessary for bringing holistic development in the society. He thanked PIB for organising the workshop and also praised the work of the journalist fraternity of Pulwama and Shopian districts.

Deputy Director PIB Srinagar, Ghulam Abbas said that the aim of organising such a program is to highlight the role of media to bring awareness among people about different government sponsored schemes and initiatives.  He suggested that scheme implementation, analysis and results should also be reported properly to determine the actual outcome of the scheme at the ground level. Emphasizing the need of developmental reporting, he said that the media should play an active role in bringing about awareness while district administration should work towards implementation of various Centrally Sponsored Schemes.

Speaking on the occasion, District Information Officer, Tahir Ahmad said that all persons associated with media should make an effort to realise their mandate. He said that journalists must utilise the various tools at their disposal to highlight people’s issues in a unique and novel manner in order to bring them to the notice of concerned authorities. He added that journalists should carry out their professional duties with utmost dedication and compliance to ethics. He further said that the media has a hand in glove relationship with society and administration and it is the responsibility of every journalist to deal with the issues of fake news and misinformation.

Addressing media persons on different aspects of communication, Media and Communications Officer PIB, Majid Pandit emphasized the need of synergy between new and old media. He said that the initiatives of the government can be communicated to people through effective use of social media owing to its reach and effectiveness.

On the occasion, Senior Journalist Jehangir Malik spoke about the role of the media in creating awareness about developmental initiatives of the government. Social Welfare Officer, Irshad Ahmad spoke about the social welfare schemes of the Central Government with special focus on women and children in district Pulwama. Professor Mass Communication and Journalism, Islamic University of Science and Technology, Ruheela Hassan spoke about the New Education Policy of the government.

Assistant Commissioner Development, Pulwama Dr. Peerzada Farhat spoke about the rural development schemes of the government. Senior Journalist Shabir Bhat spoke about the challenges faced by the journalists in reporting from the remote areas and News Editor, All India Radio Ishfaq Shah spoke about the impact of social media on the authenticity of news and the journalistic responsibilities.

The lectures were followed by interactive sessions in which participants put forward their comments and observations with the experts. Media persons hailed the efforts of PIB for organizing the program.
