Bamboo Artisans of J&K being send to Assam for Skill Development

Handicraft directorate hosts pre- Training orientation program for the group

 Jammu, Mar16: Directorate of Handicrafts and Handloom, Jammu on Wednesday organised a one day Orientation Programme for the Bamboo Artisans, who are set to leave for Assam to undergo Capacity Building and Skill Development Training at North East Cane and Bamboo Development Council (NECBDC).

 The visit of the artisans has been organized by Directorate of Handicrafts and Handloom, Jammu.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Vikas Gupta, Director Handicrafts & Handloom, Jammu informed that 15 bamboo artisans of Kathua, Samba and Udhampur districts of Jammu division, who are actively involved in bamboo craft, are being deputed to NECBDC, Assam from March 22, 2022 for undergoing 21 day Capacity Building and Skill Development Training Programme to enhance their skills for making diverse and durable bamboo products and have a firsthand knowledge of the latest developments made in the sector.

The training programme aims to make available a skilled workforce for bamboo product development, who once trained shall serve as master trainers to further transfer the learned skill to the bamboo artisans of Jammu division.

The Training programme is a step forward to the MoU signed by the Government of Jammu and Kashmir with North East Cane and Bamboo Development Council, Assam which envisages projects like establishment of Common Facility Centres at Billawar & Sallan in Kathua  & Sumbh in Samba for Bamboo Furniture, Agarbatti, Basketry and other utility items for promotion and development of bamboo and bamboo products in the UT of Jammu and Kashmir.

These CFCs shall provide all the infrastructural requirements like bamboo treatment plant, Common working shed, bamboo impregnation plant, quality raw material, logistic support, sales outlet, skill development centres under one roof.

Chief Guest of the occasion  Ranjan Prakash Thakur, IRAS, Principal/ Secretary to Govt, Industries and Commerce Department appreciated the artisans for coming forward to undergo the training programme and encouraged them to learn the best practices from Assam and replicate the same in Jammu and Kashmir.

Director, Industries and Commerce Department, Jammu,  Managing Director, JKSICOP, ,Development Officer(Textile), Deputy Director(Trg), Deputy Director (Planning), and  Assistant Directors Handicrafts of the districts were present on occasion.
