Celebratory function under International Women’s Week held at Anantnag

Anantnag, Mar 12: The District Social Welfare Office Anantnag in collaboration with Mahila Shakti Kendra, Sakhi One Stop Centre and Humanity, the ultimate faith (NGO) today organised a celebratory function in connection with International Women’s week 2022 with a campaign theme “Break the Bias “at Town Hall, here.

The chairman MC Anantnag, Hilal Ahmad Shah, who was the chief guest on the occasion appreciated the Social Welfare department for organising such programmes and emphasised on gender equality. He advised the women folk to be courageous and face all challenges with grit and determination.

Speaking on the occasion, Secretary DLSA, Wajahat Ahmad laid stress on gender equality and said that women themselves have to play an important role in bridging the gap.

Women speakers while enlightening the audience about the role played by the women folk in various fields like sports, education , Health etc said that in the modern world, the scenario has changed and women are not only at par with men but even ahead  in some fields.

Women who have excelled in their fields were felicitated on the occasion and they shared their success stories and urged the female folk to overcome the day to day challenges with courage and wisdom.

Parveena Akther, Assistant Professor GDC Women while briefing about her journey of success said that education is the most important tool for uplifting women and to remove the gender gap.

Women have to change their mentality of being weak and have to be courageous to end domestic violence, the speakers emphasised.

A female advocate while advocating gender equality said that she has registered more than 250 cases which were provided justice. It is only the division of labour that most of the women are handling the house jobs and men are doing the outdoor jobs, she added.

During the programme, Principal GDC Women, Senior Gynecologist, Dr. Fozia and other women achievers also spoke at length on the theme of the IWW 2022.

The work done by the women’s health and other frontline workers during the Covid-19 Pandemic were also felicitated on the occasion. Besides pension cards among the women beneficiaries were distributed.

Worth mentioning, colorful cultural programmes featuring theme songs on gender equality, women empowerment etc were presented on the occasion.
