District Administration Srinagar organises International  Women’s Day function at Banquet Hall

DC Srinagar felicitates women achievers of the district

 Srinagar, Mar 8: To commemorate the International Women’s Day, celebrated on 8th of March every year, an impressive function was today organized by District Administration Srinagar under the banner of Beti Bachao Beti Padhao at Banquet Hall, here.

The Deputy Commissioner (DC) Srinagar, Mohammad Aijaz Asad, who is also Chairman BBBP & Mahila Shakti Kendra Srinagar (MSK) was the Chief Guest on the occasion.

During the function, various programmes related to women empowerment were presented, besides women achievers of Srinagar were also felicitated by the District Administration.

Addressing the gathering, the DC lauded the efforts of the women for their accomplishments in varied sectors, he praised female Covid warriors including medical staff, paramedic, education, ICDS, Social Welfare and others for playing key roles in Covid-19 mitigation efforts and vaccination process.

While highlighting the strength, abilities, rights and duties of the women, the DC said that the sole basis for the existence of the world is Women. He said the equality of women exists in our faith and beliefs. He stressed on equal opportunities and widening of women’s sphere of activities so that their special talents and experiences could enrich the overall society.

The DC also congratulated the women achievers of the district and the students who qualified the recent 12th Class Examination, especially female students who came out with flying colours and secured top positions in the result. He said in contemporary times women are leading the world through the challenges and showing the way to others.

The DC said District Administration is making concerted efforts to empower the women folk by providing handholding and adequate platform to shine in all walks of life.

He said on International Women’s Day various debates and seminars on women empowerment and women’s rights are being conducted, this is an important aspect through which awareness among people regarding women empowerment, rights, health/legal services and skill development under Centrally Sponsored Schemes etc. is raised.

The DC also said that if we delve deep into all the religious teachings, they all teach us to work for the betterment of the women folk, promote women empowerment and safeguard their rights.

While making mention of the recent acid attack in Srinagar, the DC said such heinous acts are shameful and parents have a pivotal role in avoiding such acts in future.

Expressing his grave concern over such inhuman acts, the DC urged all stakeholders particularly parents to lay stress on inculcating moral values among their children so that such shocking incidents do not happen in future.

District Program Officer (DPO), ICDS Srinagar, Zeenat Ara, Deputy Director Employment, Rouf Rehman, Assistant Commissioner Panchayats, Nighat Jan and other senior functionaries of District Administration and ICDS were present on the occasion.
