Shriya, Lakshya, Rashid receive rousing welcome at Jammu

Jammu, Mar 4: The Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council today accorded a warm welcome to bronze medalists, of Junior National Asian fencing Championship held at recently Uzbekistan, Shreya Gupta, Lakshay Sharma and Rashid Ahmed Chaudhari on their arrival at Jammu.

Secretary, Sports Council, Nuzhat Gul, while felicitating  Shreya Gupta, conveyed best wishes on behalf of Advisor to Lieutenant Governor, Farooq Khan, and Principal Secretary, Youth Services and Sports, Alok Kumar, for her outstanding achievement and winning bronze medal in the Asian Championship.

In the Championship, the gold medal won by Hongkong, Kazakhstan clinched the silver while Indian players bagged the bronze medal for the country in women category.

Lakshya Sharma also represented the country and remained at 6th position with a narrow margin of 43: 45 from Iran.

Rashid Ahmed Chaudhari, who accompanied the Indian team as coach, expressed gratitude to Sports Council for their support. He said this is golden era of sports development with tremendous support of the government for the athletes. The transparency in selection process of the athletes can be gauged by the increase of medal tally for the UT.

Secretary reiterated the support of government for athletes and requested the media, parents and society as a whole to come forward in making J&K hub of sports.

On the occasion, she conveyed best wishes and assured all possible support to youth of J &K in future so that the players are able to give their best in future competitions. She also expressed special gratitude to the coaches of fencing centre Shotu lal and Rachna Jamwal for their contribution towards making fencing centre at Jammu as Nursery of the champions.

She also appreciated the role of media for promotion of sports in every nook and corner of the UT.

Dr. Zafar Iqbal, Chief Accounts Officer, Sports Council, appreciated the winning players and Coach, Rashid Ahmed Chaudhari.

Ashok Singh, Divisional Sports Officer, presented vote of thanks.

S P Singh, Satish Gupta Shakti Chopra, Managers of Sports Council, coaches and officials and staff of the Sports Council besides fencing association members were present during the felicitation function.
