14 Days Skiing Course organised by IUST concludes at Gulmarg

Gulmarg, Mar 4: The 14 days Snow Skiing Courses held in Gulmarg by the Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST) from 18th February to 3rd March concluded here Thursday in which student skiers were trained in three skiing courses Basic, Intermediate and Advanced level by the Directorate of Physical Education and Sports IUST in collaboration with Department of Youth Services & Sports J&K.

During the closing ceremony, Vice Chancellor IUST Prof. Shakil A. Romshoo congratulated students on their course completion and said, “Winter Sport sector is developing rapidly in Kashmir and we are trying to train our students in different sports and adventure sports to help them become significant human resource for the well being of society.”

“Recently Gulmarg has emerged as a very important Sports Center for Winter Games and at IUST we intend to promote sports at a macro level through our proposed Alpine Club which will be the first such initiative in this part of the country,” Prof. Romshoo added.

Earlier Assistant Director Sports IUST, Dr. Hilal Ahmad Rather welcomed the Vice Chancellor and other dignitaries including Dean Academic Affairs Prof. Manzoor Ahmed Malik, Finance Officer and Chairman Sports Committee IUST Sameer Wazir and thanked Director Youth Services and Sports Gazanfar Ali for deputing professional Skiing Trainer Gh. Nabi Reshi for the said courses.

Later on awards were distributed among participants based on their overall performance during the course. Sports Assistant IUST Altaf Hussain was also part of the organisers team.
