DSEJ, KEF Observe International Day of Education

Jammu, Jan 25: To highlight the role of education for inclusion, sustainability, peace and development, Directorate of School Education Jammu in collaboration with Kaivalaya Education Foundation organized a webinar on “Managing Student Engagement with Focus on Student Mental Health.”

Shiv Kumar Gandhi, PD Aesthetic Literacy SEEL Expert KEF, Dr. Romesh Sharma, Head Counselling Cell DSEJ, Jasmine Kour Clinical Psychologist and Roohie Sultana KRP DSEK were the resource persons.

Theme for International Day of Education 2022 is changing the Course, Transforming Education.

The webinar was attended by more than 1000 Teachers, Faculty counsellors, HOIs from HSS/HS/MS of Jammu Division. It was live streamed through different virtual platforms.

        Shiv Kumar Gandhi highlighted the need and importance of Social Emotional Ethical Learning Curriculum (SEEL). This curriculum has been prepared by Emory University and was launched by the Dalai Lama in 2019.

      Gandhi emphasized upon self-awareness, self regulation, compassion, interpersonal relations, interdependence, community and global engagement as core components of the SEEL curriculum which need to be developed in students besides academics.

 He also stressed upon the importance of Art Therapy for students and how it helps to handle their mental stress. He said that in these exceptional times, if we are to transform the future, if we are to change course, we must rethink education.

       Dr. Romesh Sharma Head Counselling Cell DSEJ highlighted the initiatives taken by counselling cell, Directorate of School Education Jammu for socio-emotional learning of students. He added that education is incomplete if it does not impart socio-emotional ethical and life skills to students.

 Jasmeen Kour discussed various ways to be followed by students and teachers for optimal mental health and well-being. Roohie Sultana deliberated upon the pedagogy to engage children in a better way

The house remained open for participants to ask their questions and experts deliberated upon them.  Dr. Alka Sharma, Member Counselling Cell DSEJ moderated the proceedings of the programme whereas Ms. Zeeshan Hassan Project Director KEF , Zahoor and Ms Sheetal helped in the smooth conduct of the proceedings.
