India logs 2.82 lakh fresh Covid cases in last 24 hrs

New Delhi, Jan 19:  India has reported 2,82,970 new cases of Covid-19 and 441 deaths in the last 24 hours, the Union Health Ministry said on Wednesday.

With this the total tally of Covid cases in the country has reached at 3,79,01,241 crore.

Meanwhile, 1,88,157 recoveries were reported in the last 24 hours increases the total recoveries to 3,55,83,039.

The active cases stands at 18,31,000 which is now comprise 4.83 per cent of the total infections, while the national Covid-19 recovery rate has decreased to 93.88 per cent.


The daily positivity rate is up from 15.13 per cent while the weekly positivity rate was recorded at 15.53 per cent as per the data.Meanwhile, India’s Omicron tally on Tuesday reached 8,961 an increase of 0.79 per cent since yesterday.On the vaccination front, the government has been continuously speeding up the vaccination drive across the country.According to the bulletin issued by the Ministry on Tuesday 70.74 Crore tests for Covid-19 have been done so far.

“India has administered 158.88 doses of Covid-19 vaccine so far under the ongoing nationwide vaccination drive” Ministry data said.


More than 158.46 crores vaccine doses were provided to States/UTs so far. Over 12.84 the crores balance and unutilized Covid vaccine doses are still available with the States/UTs to be administered, the ministry said.Meanwhile the Union Health Ministry on Tuesday asked the States and Union Territories to enhance testing so that an effective track of the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic can be kept and immediate citizen-centric action can be initiated.

In a letter to states and UTs, Additional Secretary in the Union Health Ministry Arti Ahuja advised them to pay attention to this aspect immediately and increase the testing in a strategic manner keeping in view the trend of case positivity in specific areas.
