India reports 2.68 lakh Covid cases

New Delhi Jan 15: India registered 2,68,833 new Covid-19 cases taking the total tally to 3.67 crore in the country, the Healthy Ministry informed on Saturday.


The daily positivity rate was recorded at 16.66 per cent while the weekly positivity rate was recorded at 12.84 per cent.

The active cases comprise 3.85 per cent of the total infections, while the national Covid-19 recovery rate has decreased to 94.83 per cent.

A total 402 new Covid deaths have been reported, taking the total count to 4,85,752.

The active caseload currently stands at 14,17,820 while 1,22,684 people have recovered taking the total numbers of recoveries to 3,49,47,390.

Meanwhile, India’s Omicron tally on Saturday reached 6,041, an increase of 5.01 per cent since Friday.

In Delhi, positivity rate jumped to 30.64 per cent on Friday as the national capital reported 24,383 new Covid cases and 34 deaths.

More than 75 per cent of those who died due to Covid in the current wave in Delhi were unvaccinated, Health Minister Satyendra Jain said.

Currently, there are 92,273 active cases in the city, of which 64,831 are in home isolation.

On Friday 70.07 Crore tests for Covid-19 were done.

“India has administered 156.02 doses of Covid-19 vaccine so far under the ongoing nationwide vaccination drive”.

More than 157. 87 crores vaccine doses were provided to States/UTs so far.

Over 14.84 crores balance and unutilized Covid vaccine doses are still available with the States/UTs to be administered, the ministry said.
