Police suspect militant Sameer Dar is dead

Srinagar, Jan 1 : The Jammu and Kashmir Police believe that one of militants killed in Anantnag on December 30 is Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) local commander Samir Dar, who was the last surviving militant involved in the Lethpora Pulwama bombing that killed 40 CRPF personnel in February 2019.

Police officials said they were going for DNA sample matching to confirm his identity.
“The picture of one of the killed terrorists in Anantnag matches with Samir Dar,” a tweet quoted Inspector General of Police (Kashmir) Vijay Kumar as saying.

Nineteen militants and overground workers were reportedly involved in the Lethpora suicide attack that brought India and Pakistan to the brink of war.

Sameer Dar was thought to have been killed in a July 31 encounter last year in Tral forest in south Kashmir along with Jaish commander Mohammad Ismal Alvi alias alias Lamboo but later it was established that he was alive.

Three Jaish militants and a soldier were killed in an encounter that erupted on December 30 evening in Dooru Anantnag.
