Six Maoists gunned down along Telangana-Andhra border

Khammam (Telangana), Dec 27 :  A gun battle deep inside a forested area along the Telangana-Andhra Pradesh border on Monday left six Maoists dead, as per official sources.

The gunfight is over with the recovery of the six bodies, the sources said, informing that top police officers of both Telugu states have rushed to the spot.

Search operations were underway, as per sources close to the Khammam district Superintendent of Police.

The encounter started between 6.30 am and 7 am close to south Bastar area under Sukma district on the Chhattisgarh side along the Telangana border. The exchange of fire between security forces and the insurgents moved along the border areas of the three states. The bodies were recovered from Khammam forest area of Telangana.

A police party was carrying out combing operation in the forested zone following a specific tip-off, according to Bhadradri Kothagudem district police.

Initial reports said the gun battle took place between Telengana Grey Hounds and the left wing extremists in the border area along the three states. A huge cache of arms and ammunition were also found, as per the official sources.
