PM to open Bina-Panki Multi Product Pipeline

Kanpur, Dec 27: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the Bina-Panki Multi Product Pipeline here on Tuesday.

The pipeline will be operated by Bharat Petroleum Corp Ltd (BPCL), a Maharatna and a Fortune Global 500 Company.

The 356-km pipeline originates from Bina Refinery and terminates at Panki Depot in Kanpur.

Constructed at a cost of Rs 1,524 crores, it will cater to the demand of petroleum products from northern states and has a designed capacity of 3.5 MMTPA.

Officials on Monday said the pipeline is equipped with the state of the art SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) system, ensuring supply of petrol and diesel in Kanpur, Lucknow, Aonla, Shahjanpur, Baitalpur and Gonda in Uttar Pradesh.

The petroleum products will also be supplied to Kathgodam in southern Uttarakhand and Muzzafarpur in northern Bihar.

The SCADA system will ensure effective and reliable control, management and supervision of pipeline from centralized location. Real time and negative pressure wave based leak detection system integrated with SCADA network is also provided to ensure safety and security of pipeline operation.

The project also included augmentation of tankage capacity at Panki Depot to 2 lakh kilo litre.

The pipeline will reduce carbon emission by around 68 percent in product transportation from Bina to Panki.

The project was completed one month ahead of scheduled.
