PM Modi to hold meeting over COVID-19

New Delhi, Dec 23: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hold a meeting on Thursday to review the COVID-19 situation in the country, sources said.

Sources further said the PM Modi will convene the meeting at 1830 hours.

The meeting comes amid a spike in cases of the new variant of COVID-19 Omicron.

According to the latest bulletin issued by the Health Ministry on Thursday, a total of 236 cases of Omicron have so far been reported in the country.

Out of the 236 cases, 104 have been discharged following their recovery from the virus.

Maharashtra has reported the highest number of Omicron cases at 65, followed by Delhi 64 and Telangana 24.

As per the bulletin, the country’s overall caseload rose to 3,47,65,976 with the detection of 7,495 new COVID cases in the last 24 hours, while 434 fatalities pushed the death toll to 4,78,759.

The recoveries tally rose to 3,42,08,926 as 6,960 people reovered from the disease in the last 24 hours. Active cases stood at 78,291.
