Rahul Gandhi gives adjournment notice to discuss statehood for Ladakh

New Delhi, Dec 20 :  Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Monday submitted an adjournment notice in Lok Sabha for statehood and inclusion of Ladakh in the 6th schedule, and formation of a committee for this with members from bodies from both Leh and Kargil.

The adjournment notice submitted to Lok Sabha secretariat said a committee should be formed with members from both Leh Apex Body, and Kargil Democratic Alliance, two bodies from the two districts of Ladakh which have been holding protests demanding statehood.

He also called for “urgent action” to ensure unhindered access to pasture lands in border areas which were traditionally accessible.

A strike was observed in Ladakh, in both Leh and Kargil on December 13 demanding statehood. The call for the strike was given by Leh Apex Body and Kargil Democratic Alliance – which include representatives from different trade, religious and political groups.
