Parts of famous Dal Lake frozen as temperature plunges in Kashmir

Srinagar, Dec 15 :  Interior parts of the world famous Dal Lake in Kashmir valley were frozen as the temperature plummeted to the seasons lowest so far at minus 3.9 degree Celsius here on Wednesday.

The interior parts of Dal Lake including small water bodies and nallas were frozen due to the clear sky and further dip in night temperature in the Kashmir valley.

Boatmen were seen breaking the frozen parts of ice to make way for their Shikaras to move forward. A person was also seen holding a frozen ice shield in his hands in joy.

The MET center predicted further fall in night temperature by 2 to 4 degrees in the coming days in Jammu and Kashmir. However, the weather will remain dry till December 23.

The MET office also said that Kashmir valley and Ladakh have 60 percent chances of receiving snowfall on Christmas day.
