Uproar as Piyush Goyal says Opposition ‘feels no remorse’; RS adjourned till 2 pm

Uproar as Piyush Goyal says Opposition 'feels no remorse'; RS adjourned till 2 pm

New Delhi, Dec 13:  The Rajya Sabha was adjourned again till 2 pm after Opposition members created a ruckus following Union Minister and Leader of the House Piyush Goyal’s statement that the Opposition “instead of feeling any remorse” over suspension of 12 members have refused to apologise.

When the House met at 12 noon after the first suspension, Leader of the House Piyush Goyal got up to speak to justify non revocation of the suspension.

He said the government has been trying “repeatedly” to resolve the situation and had held talks with everyone in the Opposition.

“But the kind of statements that are being made outside the House… ‘That we have done nothing wrong, and will not apologise’,” Goyal said.

Referring to the chaotic Monsoon session, he said, “We have seen an entire session where the Chair made make appeals for the House to run properly, and the insult to the Marshalls, the Chair, and members and staff.. and instead of feeling any remorse, and in front of the country and world they are continuing with this behaviour,” Goyal said, to loud protests by the Opposition.

He said the country was witnessing a historic event, in inauguration of the renovated Kashi Vishwanath Dham on Monday by PM Modi. “On one side they say they are Hindus, and on the other they behave like this, it is a matter of shame,” he said, to vociferous protests by the Opposition.

Deputy Chairman Harivansh Narayan Singh then adjourned the House till 2 pm amid the ruckus.

In the morning too, the House witnessed uproar over the issue, as the Opposition, led by Anand Sharma of the Congress and Leader of Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge appealed for revocation of the suspension of the 12 members.
