Commissionerate F&DA, FS&T deptt, KU organize daylong awareness program at Kashmir University

SRINAGAR, DECEMBER 09: Commissionerate of Food and Drugs Administration (F&DA) J&K in collaboration with Department of Food Sciences and Technology (FS&T) University of Kashmir organized a daylong awareness program at Gandhi Bhawan Kashmir University.

Hilal Ahmad Mir, Assistant Commissioner Food Safety while highlighting the role of the department requested the scientists of Food Sciences and Technology department to help ensure declaration of the university campus as Eat Right Campus. He also promised all help from the department in ensuring this process within the shortest possible time.

Prof. Irshad Ahmad Nawchoo, Dean Research University of Kashmir highlighted importance of conducting research on specific food items for determination of their carcinogenic properties if any and stressed upon use of natural colours and sweeteners instead of artificial ones.

Shabir Ahmad Lone, Technical officer Commissioner FDA stressed on the participants especially Food Business Operators present in the awareness program to adopt good hygienic and manufacturing practices so that safe and wholesome food is available within the campus.

Dr Adil Gani, Coordinator and Senior Assistant Professor, Department of Food Science and Technology, University of Kashmir impressed upon the need to carry out more scientific based studies on safe and nutritious food.

Nadiya Rashid Malik Food Safety Officer in her power point presentation highlighted the process which is required to declare a campus as Eat Right Campus followed by presentations from experts of different universities Dr Sajad Mohammad Wani (Associate Professor SKAUST), Dr Sajad Ahmad Mir (Lecturer university of Kashmir), Dr. Basharat Yousuf (Lecturer KU) and M Masarat Dar (Laboratory Assistant University of Kashmir).

It was mutually agreed that all efforts will be made jointly by the Department and Kashmir University authorities for declaring Kashmir University Campus as an Eat Right Campus within the shortest possible time so that safe and wholesome food is made available to all within the campus.

Officers from Drugs and Food Control Organization, faculty members from various departments of university of Kashmir, food business operators, third party food establishments and students from various departments took part in the awareness programme.
