Gulmarg at -7 gets coldest night of the season so far

Srinagar, Dec 6 : There was slight improvement in cold conditions in the Kashmir Valley on Monday with sky getting cleared after day-long rain and snowfall. Gulmarg experienced coldest night of the season at minus 7 degrees Celsius, the IMD said on Monday.

The MeT office said weather improved in all districts of the valley. It also forecast possibility of light rain and snow on Wednesday and Thursday at some places.

The overall weather conditions will remain dry during the next 10 days except gradual fall in the night temperature across the valley, the MeT office added.

The ski resort of Gulmarg in north Kashmir experienced its coldest night of the season after daylong snowfall on Sunday. About 12.2 cm of snowfall was recorded in Gulmarg. Thick fog intensified cold conditions in the valley.

In Srinagar, weather improved with clear sky and the minimum temperature was recorded at 2.6 degrees Celsius. A rainfall of 15.3mm was also recorded till 8 am over the past 24 hours.


Qazigund on Srinagar-Jammu national highway recorded a minimum of 3.2 degrees Celsius and 17.8mm of rainfall, while Kokernag 1.9 degrees Celsius with 13.8mm of rainfall.

Similarly the tourist resort of Pahalgam recorded a minimum of 0.6 degree Celsius with 13.9mm of rainfall in the past 24 hours. However, the weather has cleared.

The minimum temperature in frontier Kashmir district of Kupwara was recorded at 1degree Celsius with 10.3 mm of rainfall, the MET office said.
