Disability Week celebrated at Town Hall, Shopian

SHOPIAN, NOVEMBER 30: Weeklong Disability programme was organised by Social Welfare Department Shopian for empowerment of persons with disabilities for their inclusive equitable and sustainable development at Town Hall, Shopian.

Specially abled students, parents, officials of several departments participated in the event.

Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Shopian, Mushtaq Ahmed Simnani attended the event in the capacity of Chief Guest on the occasion.

Speaking on the occasion, the ADC added that the disability is not inability but a challenge for persons with disabilities to prove their abilities. We all should remain steadfast to defeat disability and prove our abilities.

He urged the officials, activists and people working in the field to continue working for overall development of specially-abled persons.

ADC also distributed Educational Kits among the beneficiaries at the event.

DSWO, Mohammad Rizwan, gave an introduction about the Disability Day and its importance in today’s date. He also urged participants and guests to pay attention to the persons with different disabilities.

It is the duty of all the individuals, organizations and stakeholders to work on a collective basis to empower persons with disabilities and work towards creating an inclusive just society.

Other dignitaries including DSWO, Shopian, Secretary, Municipal Committee, Shopian, AO and other concerned were present.
