Mumbai, Nov 30 : A local court here on Tuesday rejected bail plea of a policeman and policewoman officer in an extortion case, involving former Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh.
In a detailed order passed by Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate RM Nerlikar it was held that accused police officer Asha Kore and Nandkumar Gopale have committed non-bailable offence as prima facie proofs were available against them.
Both of them were arrested by Marine Drive police station on a complaint filed by a realtor developer accusing them and the former police commissioner of extorting Rs 50 lakh from him.
The court also said the alleged offence is serious in nature and both of them are police officers and are highly influential people and if they were to be released on bail, the possibility of them creating a hurdle in the investigation cannot be ruled out.
