Police in J&K destroys 24kg RDX seized during anti-terror Ops

Jammu, Nov 26 “: Police in Jammu and Kashmir’s Reasi destroyed explosives seized during various anti-terrorism operations from the Mahore belt, it was reported on Friday.
Reasi Senior Superintendent of Police Shailendra Singh said different police stations and teams of Special Operation Group had seized grenades, IEDs, RDX in as many ass 15 terrorism-related cases registered since 2009 in Mahore-Chassana area.

These explosives were kept in the safe custody of the police for years, he said, adding “sensing security threat of accidental explosions, police approached the concerned courts to seek permission for the lawful and safe destruction of the seized explosives which included RDX and grenades”, said the officer.
He said that after hearing petition of the police, the Court of Sessions Judge Reasi passed the order for the destruction of explosives in two cases by the police.
The two cases were followed up in the NIA Court Jammu and the required orders were issued, whereas destruction order in rest eleven cases were passed by the Court of JMIC Mahore.
On the directions of the court, the SSP said that a special joint team of Sub-division Mahore, BDS Squad of Reasi Police and Engineering regiment of Army was constituted to assist in the compliance of orders.
With due precautions and meticulous planning, all explosives and allied materials were taken to a safe place and the team of explosives experts destroyed it with special care while following the due protocol.

He said that the destroyed explosives included 71 Hand Grenades, 24 Kgs of RDX, detonators, IED fuses, remotes of IEDs etc.
Additional Director General of Police Jammu Zone Mukesh Singh appreciated Suleman Choudhari, Deputy Inspector General of Police Udhampur-Reasi range for his guidance and SSP Reasi and his team for putting sincere efforts to take the last leg of militancy related disposed of cases to their logical conclusion and it’s safe execution.

The ADGP also directed to follow similar pending cases in the courts and get rid of seized explosive materials lying in the police stations or the court.
