Kin of two Hyderpora encounter victims demand mortal remains

Srinagar, Nov 17 (UNI) :The families of two men killed in Hyderpora encounter in Srinagar staged a protests here in Jammu and Kashmir pleading with authorities to return the mortal remains.

The police have buried the dead in north Kashmir to avoid any law and order situation following the Monday evening incident.

Four persons were killed on Monday in an alleged gunfight in the uptown Srinagar area.
Jammu and Kashmir Police said out of the four slain two were militants, one Mudassir Gul was “ terrorist associate” and another was the owner of the building.
The families of three among the dead have contested the police claims saying they were “innocent civilians”.

The families of Altaf Ahmad, a businessman and Mudassir Gul, a dental surgeon-turned-entrepreneur, staged the protests in the city centre and demanded return of the bodies.
Gul and Bhat were buried at the Handwara graveyard in the frontier district of Kupwara. The graveyard is reserved for militants killed in gunfights.

“Here we are protesting to seek the return of bodies and also demand justice,” said a relative of Ahmad.
“Police has admitted that Altaf was a civilian, we wonder why his body was not returned to us for final burial? We will continue our protests if the body is not given back,” the relative said.
The protesters also demanded an end to civilian killings.

Humaira Gul, wife of Mudasir Gul, was also part at the protest site. She said her husband was not a terrorist.

“They murdered him. Give us justice, give justice to his two-year-old daughter Inaya,” she said. “My daughter has been crying and I have no answers for her. I urge LG Manoj Sinha to allow my daughter to see her father for the last time,” she said
