President lauds handling of Covid pandemic at conference of Governors, LGs

New Delhi, Nov 8: President Ram Nath Kovind on Thursday said India ran the “most effective” campaign against the Covid pandemic, as he addressed the 51st conference of Governors and Lieutenant Governors at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Thursday.

Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah are also attending the Conference.

“The most extensive and effective campaign against Covid-19 pandemic was run in India in the leadership of PM Modiji. Under the guidance o the PM and by the initiative of the entrepreneurs of the country, vaccines were developed in India, and production at large scale has been possible,” the President said.

He mentioned that over 108 Crore vaccines have already been administered.

“We are also helping other countries. India’s Vaccine Maitri program is being appreciated all over the world,” he said.

The President also lauded the role played by the Governors in handling the pandemic.

“We have faced the pandemic better than many developed nations,” President Kovind said.

The President also mentioned the commitments made by India at the Climate Change Conference in Glasgow, Scotland, and said India is the only big economy which has made tangible progress with regards to the Paris agreement.

Talking about the Jal Jeevan Mission which aims at providing drinking water through pipeline to every household, he said it is a top priority of the government.

He also talked about the role of Governors as Chancellors of state universities, and said they have a role in development of the youth of the country.

The President said the role of a Governor is of a “friend, philosopher, and guide” to the state governments. He also asked them to ensure people’s participation in government programs.

“In democracy we should have continued connectivity with common people,” he said.
