Jammu: Shrine Board athletes excels in judo, athletic events

Jammu, Nov 2 : The athletes of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board have excelled in the events of judo and athletics organized by different associations in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, it was announced on Tuesday.
An official handout said that four Judokas hailing from Katra and trained at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi’s Sports Complex have been selected for Cadet and Sub-Junior All India Judo Championship to be held at Chandigarh from November 6 to to 14.
The selected players have won gold medals in the UT Level Judo championship organised by the Jammu and Kashmir Judo Association at Bhagwati Nagar, Indoor Sports Complex on October 30, he said adding that they were trained by coach Danish Sharma.
The handout further said that in another event, athletes of SMVDSB, Katra came-up with flying colours in J&K UT Masters Athletics Annual Championship held at Maulana Azad Stadium, Jammu on October 31 organized by J&K Masters Athletic Association.
The team won three Gold medals, two Silver and one Bronze medal in various events.
Around 120 athletes from all over J&K UT participated in various age categories ranging. Among Athletes from SMVDSB Rishi Kumar Choudhary bagged Gold in 5000 meters whereas Abhishek Sharma bagged Gold in 800 meters and Silver in 5000 meters in the age category of 40 plus and ranked overall first among all the categories in 800 meters event.
Besides, Sandeep Sharma bagged silver in 800 meters in the age category of 35 plus who also participated in 10,000 meters run.
Sumeet Sharma bagged bronze in 800 meters and participated in 10,000 meters alongwith Rajat Magotra.
All the medal winners have qualified for Masters Athletics Annual Championship scheduled to be held on November 27 at Varanasi, UP.
Shrine Board Chief Executive Officer; Ramesh Kumar, Director (Finance); Hemkant Prasher, Joint Chief Executive Officer Dr. Sunil Sharma and Dy. Chief Executive Officer, Vishavjeet Singh, felicitated all sportspersons.
The Chief Executive Officer applauded their achievements and wished them success in the upcoming event ensuring all possible support to sportspersons for future endeavours.
