PM Modi to hold bilateral with UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson, attend COP26 event

Glasgow/New Delhi, Nov 1:Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who arrived in Glasgow last night, will hold a bilateral meeting with UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson and also address a COP26 Leaders’ event today.

“Landed in Glasgow. Will be joining the @COP26 Summit, where I look forward to working with other world leaders on mitigating climate change and articulating India’s efforts in this regard,” the Prime Minister tweeted on landing in Glasgow.

Besides meeting the UK Prime Minister, the Prime Minister will also meet community leaders and Indologists today.

He will take part in the COP26 Opening Ceremony, and the COP26 Leader Level event – ‘Action and Solidarity-The Critical Decade’.

On Sunday night, the Prime Minister emplaned for Glasgow from Rome, where he attended the 16th G20 Summit.

In a departure statement earlier in New Delhi, the Prime Minister said he will attend the high-level segment of COP-26 titled ‘World Leaders’ Summit’ (WLS) on November 1-2 along with 120 Heads of States/Governments from around the world.

“At the World Leaders Summit, I will share India’s excellent track record on climate action and our achievements,” he stressed.

He said he will also highlight the need to comprehensively address climate change issues including equitable distribution of carbon space, support for mitigation and adaptation and resilience building measures, mobilization of finance, technology transfer and importance of sustainable lifestyles for green and inclusive growth.

“COP26 Summit will also provide an opportunity to meet with all the stakeholders including leaders of partner countries, innovators and Inter-Governmental Organization and explore the possibilities for further accelerating our clean growth,” he also said.
