Mehbooba put under house arrest: PDP

Srinagar, Nov 1 (UNI) Former Chief Minister and Peoples Democratic Party president Mehbooba Mufti was on Monday put under house arrest ahead of her visit to a family of a victim killed in crossfire between terrorists and security forces in Anantnag, a party leader said on Monday.

Mufti was scheduled to visit the family of slain Shahid Ahmad, who was killed in the alleged crossfire incident in Shopian district of south Kashmir on October 24.

A party leader said policemen locked the main gate of Mufti’s Fairview residence on Gupkar Road and also parked a mobile bunker outside the gate.

“She has been put under house arrest before her visit to the house of slain youth in Anantnag,” said the party leader.

The PDP chief had expressed her surprise that no action has been taken against a Bhartiya Janata Party’s former lawmaker who has allegedly called for skinning Kashmiris who supported Pakistan in a T20 World Cup match.

Mufti was responding to a tweet shared by her party senior leader where the former MLC of BJP Vikram Singh Randhawa is seen in a purported video suggesting to “skin alive those Kashmiris who support Pakistan during the cricket match with India”.

“Inkee khaal ukhaadni chahiye, naagrikta khatam karo.. (They should be skinned. Cancel their citizenship) ,” the former lawmaker can be seen saying.

“No action taken against an ex BJP MLA who calls for genocide of Kashmiris & to skin them alive. But J&K students are charged with sedition for merely cheering the winning team. India is surely the mother of all democracies,” Mufti said in a tweet while tagging J&K police and office of the Lieutenant Governor J&K.
