7.34 % polling in first 2 hrs for by-polls in HP

Shimla, Oct 30 : Himachal Pradesh recorded 7.34 pet cent polling in first two hours for Mandi Parliamentary and three assembly by-election, the Election Commission of India said.

Chief electoral officer C Palrasu said polling began on a slow note in the peaceful, pleasant weather under law and order without any major snag in the EVMs.

He said in the first two hours from 0800 to 1000 hrs polling percentage was around 7.34 as Mandi Lok Sabha( which comprises 17 polling Assembly Constituencies) recorded .5.82 pc, Fatehpur Assembly of Kangra district 8.22 pc, Arki in Solan 8.30 pc and Jubbal Kotkhai Assembly 7.02 pc.

Chief minister Jai Ram Thakur said his family members turned up to cast their votes for Mandi Parliamentary segment at polling stations in a senior secondary school at his home assembly constituency.

The polling to decide the fate of 18 candidates are being held in the 20 assembly constituencies which was mentioned as semifinals by the pollsters as state has total 68 Assembly segments.
