India has potential to become world leader in knowledge-based economy: Vice President

Panaji, Oct 28: Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu on Thursday said India with its edge in Information and Communication Technology and an educated young population has the potential to become a world leader in the knowledge-based economy.

Speaking at a function organised to inaugurate the New State of Art Building Complex of Sant Sohirobanath AmbiyeSubs Government College at Pernem in North Goa, he said strict segregation of subjects was a thing of past as the world was increasingly adopting a multidisciplinary approach in higher education to produce well-rounded individuals and better research outcomes.

Stating that India was known as the ‘Vishwa-Guru’ at one time and students from across the globe used to come to India to study at the Universities of Nalanda, Takshshila, Vikramshila, Pushpagiri, the Vice President said it was again time to see that the countrymen excelled in every field.

‘Studying in ones mother tongue makes students learn better,’ he said.
