JKHARA expresses concern over killing of non-local labourers

Srinagar, Oct 18: Jammu and Kashmir Hotel and Restaurant Association (JKHARA) has expressed serious concern over the killings of  civillians including non-local labourers.
In a statement, JKHARA President Showkat Chowdhary said Kashmir has always maintained peaceful harmony between various communities and such incidents tarnish the image of Kashmiris.
Chowdhary said the non-local labourers come to Kashmir purely for earning livelihood and targetting them is highly unfortunate.
He said such incidents will not only bring bad name to Kashmir but will also affect local economic sectors.
“Our economy is also dependent on the skilled work force from outside the J&K who work in many sectors. If non-locals leave the region, many sectors will be affected which will hamper the economic activities,” said Chowdhary.
The JKHARA President further said the killing of non-locals will also hit J&K’s tourism sector as it will send a negative message across among the travellers.
“Kashmir has been known for hospitality and safety of tourists. Such incidents need to be checked or else the travellers will think twice before making plans to holiday in Kashmir. Tourist arrivals have been picking up after Covid19 , however, these incidents can again halt the progress of this important sector,” said Chowdhary.
Chowdhary urged government to ensure foolproof security to the non-locals as to make them feel safe and stop their migration.
“Kashmiris liviing outside JK will alos be vulnerable if the such incidents on non-locals are not stopped.”

JKHARA also expressed hearfelt condolences with the bereaved families and prayed for the peace of the departed soul.
