India logs 15,981 new Covid-19 cases, 166 deaths

New Delhi, Oct 16 (UNI) A total of 15,981 people have tested positive for coronavirus in past 24 hours, the Union Health Ministry said on Saturday.

lative case tally to 3,40,53,573, while the death toll rose to 4,51,980 as 166 succumbed to the virus.

On the other hand, 17,861 people have recovered from the disease in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of recoveries to 3,33,99,961. The recovery rate currently stands at 98.08 per cent.

The cumulative active caseload now stands at 2,01,632, which is the lowest in 218 days, the figures showed.

Active cases account for less than one per cent of total cases, the Ministry said.

Meanwhile, India has administered 97.23 doses of Covid-19 vaccine so far under the ongoing nationwide vaccination drive.
