India, US to conduct joint military exercise in Alaska

New Delhi, Oct 14 (UNI) India and the US will conduct a joint military exercise ‘Yudh Abhyas’ at the Joint Base Elmendorf–Richardson in Alaska (US) from October 15, an official statement said.

The exercise is a part of the ongoing enhancement in the Indo-US Defence Cooperation.  The Indian Army contingent participating in the exercise comprises 350 personnel of an Infantry Battalion Group.

“Exercise Yudh Abhyas is the largest running joint military training and defence cooperation endeavor between India and USA. This will be the 17th Edition of the joint exercise which is hosted alternately between both countries,” a defence ministry statement said.

In February, another edition of the exercise was held at Mahajan Field Firing Ranges in Bikaner, Rajasthan.

“This exercise is another step in the growing military cooperation between the two countries,” the statement said.

The exercise will culminate on October 29 after a 48 hours long validation event.

The exercise aims at enhancing understanding, cooperation and interoperability between the two armies. The joint exercise will focus on Combined Arms Manoeuvres in cold climatic conditions and is primarily aimed at sharing tactical level drills and learning best practices from each other.
